Socio-Economic Factors Influencing Household on Non-Timber Forest Product Dependency from Chilimo Forest, Ethiopia

Non-timber forest products are very important in providing basic needs, cash deposits, and home consumption to forest-adjacent communities. Several socio-economic factors influence household dependence on non-timber products. This study focused analyzing the determining a household’s dependency from Chilimo Dandi, Ethiopia. Descriptive statistics logistic regression were applied analyze data. The main NTFPs extracted by local communities area included honey, fodder, wild vegetables, medicinal plants, firewood, charcoal. Thus used for both commercial purposes. Availability of product also influenced its extraction (χ2 (2,432) = 4.973, p<0.084). A majority households (87%) who got explained that this resource availability had decreased when compared ten years ago, thus diminishing their chances getting possibly due degradation forest. Based results like age, career head, distance market significant positive correlation exploitation dependency. Household lives near has more advantages extracting than those live further away.
